The Bank of Ghana on Friday held its maiden Governor’s New Year Media Engagement, marking a new effort to deepen collaboration between the central bank and the media.
The event, held on January 16, 2026, brought together senior journalists and editors to reflect on Ghana’s economic journey over the past year and outline priorities for the year ahead. Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama described 2025 as a difficult period that demanded tough policy choices and strict discipline to restore macroeconomic stability.
Dr Asiama expressed appreciation to the media for helping explain the rationale behind the Bank’s decisions to the public, noting that clear and responsible reporting had been critical during a challenging phase for the economy.
With relative stability now achieved, the Governor said 2026 would be a year of consolidation and discipline. He outlined the Bank’s focus on embedding ongoing reforms, ensuring that stability translates into renewed confidence, and maintaining a careful and measured monetary policy stance.
He assured journalists of continued engagement and cooperation, announcing plans to expand media training programmes and establish a dedicated forum for media professionals to enhance understanding of economic and financial issues.
Dr Asiama also unveiled the Governor’s Economic and Financial Story of the Year award, an initiative aimed at promoting insightful, accurate and impactful reporting on economic matters.
“As we gather today, let us enjoy this occasion and create lasting memories together,” he said, thanking the media for their partnership and service to the nation. He added that the Bank looked forward to building even stronger relationships with the media in 2026 and beyond.
