The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, officially launched the Abibigromma Theatre Festival at the University of Ghana, reaffirming government support for theatre and the creative arts.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Gomashie described theatre as a vital instrument for cultural preservation, education, and national development. She highlighted the sector’s economic contribution and announced seed funding for the Creative Arts Fund, aimed at supporting emerging projects and talent.

The festival also celebrated Abibigromma, the resident theatre company of the University’s School of Performing Arts, known for its Afrocentric productions, educational outreach, and community engagement. Speakers, including the Provost of the College of Humanities, emphasised the importance of repositioning Abibigromma to strengthen its role within both the University and Ghana’s broader creative ecosystem.

The inaugural festival aims to promote cultural values, nurture local talent, and enhance Ghana’s profile in the arts sector. Organisers expect the event to reinforce the role of theatre in national development while inspiring a new generation of creative practitioners
