The Ghana Police Service (GHS) has announced that adequate preparations have been made for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries across the country.
The party will be selecting one out of five candidates to lead its 2028 electioneering campaign.
Ahead of the exercise on Saturday, the Service says “adequate personnel” have been deployed.
“The Police Service has deployed adequate personnel to all designated voting centres, collation points, and surrounding areas across the country,” the Service said in a press release on Friday night.
“These measures are intended to ensure the safety of delegates, party officials, election officials, observers, and the general public, as well as the protection of property before, during, and after the exercise.”
It also indicated that “police visibility patrols, both mobile and static, will be intensified, and rapid response teams have been positioned to respond promptly to any security situation that may arise”.
“Access control measures will also be enforced at voting venues to maintain order throughout the process.”
Already, a member of the National Elections Committee of the party, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has served notice the police have instructions to bar any delegate from entering the voting area with foreign materials, particularly mobile phones.
The police have, therefore, appealed to all party supporters and members of the public to cooperate fully with security personnel, adhere to the rules governing the primaries, and conduct themselves in a peaceful and lawful manner.
“The Police Service further encourages the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or security concerns.”
