Ghana police have intercepted a large consignment of suspected narcotics concealed in a modified cargo trailer in the Oti Region, authorities said on Tuesday.
The Oti Regional Police Command said the seizure was made on 10 February at Dambai after officers, acting on intelligence, stopped and searched a DAF long trailer with registration number GW 1943-09. Although the vehicle appeared empty, officers discovered it had been altered with hidden compartments sealed with six metal plates.

Police said the concealed spaces beneath the trailer were opened in the presence of the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Amidu Jubril. A search uncovered 4,000 parcels of compressed dried leaf substances wrapped in yellow masking tape and suspected to be narcotics, carefully packed inside the secret compartments.
The truck has been impounded, while the substances and other items recovered have been retained as exhibits for evidential purposes, according to the command.
Jubril has been detained and is assisting investigators with enquiries as authorities work to determine the source and intended destination of the suspected drugs.
The Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offences, urging the public to provide information that could support ongoing operations.
