The Ministry of Health has directed the immediate enforcement of heightened security measures across all health facilities in Ghana, following the recent baby theft incident at Mamprobi Polyclinic.
In a statement, the Ministry commended the rapid response of the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and other key stakeholders, particularly the whistleblower who helped facilitate the swift action.
Health facility administrators have been instructed to review and strengthen internal security protocols without delay. In addition, the Minister for Health has reiterated the government’s previous directive mandating the installation and proper functioning of CCTV surveillance systems in all health institutions.
The Ministry emphasised that these measures are part of broader efforts to safeguard patients, ensure accountability, and prevent recurrence of such incidents. Officials also called for calm as investigations continue, assuring the public that the welfare of patients and the security of health facilities remain top priorities.
Isaac Ofei Baah, Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ministry, stated that enforcement will include both day and night security measures, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and maintaining trust in the health system.
The Ministry urged health facilities nationwide to act promptly and cooperate fully with security authorities to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff alike.
