Ghana Premier League debutants Hohoe United have affirmed their withdrawal from the 2025/26 league with immediate effect.
“We do this not because we lack the will to compete, but because of the systemic unfairness, procedural manipulation and apparent bias we have endured which have made continued participation impossible,” the club’s board said in a statement on Thursday, April 2.
The statement outlined a number of cases the club deemed unfair in its first season in the top-flight league.
Among these is a three-match home ban imposed on the team on Monday, March 9.It said not even an appeal was acknowledged let alone heard by the appropriate bodies, citing the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the mastermind.
“He (the General Secretary) indicated that the appeal and stay of execution earlier filed on the 10th of March should have been directed to the Disciplinary Committee rather than the appeals committee.
“He advised that this be done which we immediately did on the 24th of March.”
The statement later stressed: “The General Secretary’s position is a blatant and deliberate misrepresentation of the rules.
“His decision to communicate a change in venue of our game with Dreams FC on the 25th of March when there was a pending appeal to the Disciplinary Committee decision awaiting hearing was an act of injustice.”
Hohoe United recommended that the current GFA system is structured in a way that allows impartiality and transparency in the adjudication of disputes and the overall running of football.
“Therefore, with immediate effect, Hohoe United have withdrawn from the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League.
“We are highly aware of the consequences of our withdrawal and wish the GFA well in their next line of actions.”
