The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the temporary closure of the VVIP Lounge at the Accra International Airport effective Friday, April 3.
The facility, which serves as the primary reception point for high-level state officials, diplomats, and visiting foreign dignitaries, will be out of service for exactly one week.
According to official communication from the Ministry, the gates to the prestigious lounge are expected to swing open again on Friday, April 10.
The Ministry says the shutdown is strictly for scheduled renovation works to enhance security.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform all accredited stakeholders of the temporary closure of the VVIP Lounge at the Accra International Airport to allow for scheduled renovation works aimed at enhancing the safety, comfort and overall functionality of the facility.”
The works are aimed at upgrading the facility to meet modern international standards.
The Ministry further noted that this exercise is not an isolated event but part of a bigger picture.
“The renovation forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade key national infrastructure and improve service delivery to high-level dignitaries and official guests.”
Travelers who use the VVIP Lounge will within the period of renovation use the Commercial Important Person (CIP) Lounge and the Business Lounges at Terminal 3.
Acknowledging the disruption this might cause to diplomatic protocols, the Ministry stated: ”The Ministry sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and reiterates its commitment to delivering efficient and high-quality public service.”
