The government will soon be filing a motion in Parliament for the creation of an Artificial Intelligence Authority as part of the national strategy to maximize the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in almost every sphere of national life.
A proposal of a National AI Fund with a seed money of GH¢5 billion has also been made in order to see the strategy succeed within the next decade.
This came to light on Friday, April 24 at the launch of the National AI Strategy under the auspices of the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation.
Addressing the audience, the Director of the Office of Grants and Research at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Jerry John Kponyo, said with about GH¢200 billion in foreign direct and trade investment, Ghana can rake in billions of Dollars by 2035.
This, he said, is based on proven research by the committee tasked to execute the strategy.
He hinted at the proposals of an AI Authority and national fund.
President John Dramami Mahama, who was the Special Guest of Honour, admitted that AI is contributing to several sectors including the health sector in the global activities.
Therefore, he announced that government will support the Strategy financially and get an AI computing center to give it the necessary boost.
He declared that his government is focused on making Ghana West Africa’s AI hub.
