Ashanti Region Director of Legal Affairs for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Evans Amankwaa has withdrawn from the race to be the regional chairman of the party.
Lawyer Amankwaa was the leading contender to Nana Akwasi Andrews after the two slugger it out four years ago. The incumbent won by 65 votes.
Many has, therefore, tipped lawyer Amankwaa to have a ride over the incumbent chairman.
Speaking on Accra-based Onua TV, however, on Monday, September 21, the legal practitioner said he will no longer be in the race.
He said the decision comes after his Godfather, Eric Opoku, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, advised him against the decision.
“He had asked me one simple question, Are you living me alone here?” he revealed.
The legal advisor at the Ministry of Agriculture said that question left him thinking on the decision to contest for the seat again.
“So, let me let all know that I will no longer contest in the elections,” he stressed, offering advice to the two contenders left in the race.
The NDC has scheduled November 14 and 15 for the regional executive elections.
