Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency Sam Nartey George says if erstwhile government officials are being cited in the Airbus scandal, then Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, who was Attorney General and Minister of Justice then, should also be blamed.
He also says the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major (rtd) Derrick Oduro, has be interrogated as he was in the thick of affairs when the deal was sealed.
For him, Samuel Adam Foster also known as Samuel Adam Mahama, widely alleged to have been the intermediary when the deal was brokered, was not in anyway found guilty by the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom.
He was speaking on The Key Points on TV3/3FM on Saturday, July 18.
On Thursday, the local office of the International Criminal Police Organisation, Interpol, leaked an arrest warrant issued for UK-based Samuel Adam Mahama, who is a brother of former president John Dramani Mahama, for his involvement in the Airbus scandal.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials dismissed the notice as a figment of the imagination of some characters within government, just to smear the reputation of their leader.
Sam George said if the insinuations being cast are anything to go by then Mr Amidu himself should be found culpable because it was upon his advice as Attorney General that the government sealed the deal in 2011.
“I have always made the point that before government went ahead to present to Parliament the agreement for approval in 2011, government sought the advice of its chief legal officer at the time. It will interest you to know that government’s chief legal officer was Martin Amidu, who today is Special Prosecutor.
“He gave a favourable legal advice for the purchase of that aircraft,” he said.
He added that when Parliament wanted to do its own due diligence, the Defence and Interior Committee, of which Major (rtd) Oduro was a member, sent a delegation to go and inspect the aircraft and later approved of the deal.
For him, the whole resurgence of the issue is a ploy to smear Mr John Dramani Mahama with “dirt” as he gathers steam to campaign for re-election.
