The National Democratic Congress in the Dormaa West constituency says violent attacks on its members by persons it described as thugs of the governing NPP have become one too many, and have therefore warned it will return fire if the NPP stages any attack on NDC functionaries henceforth. Accusing the Member of Parliament for the area as being the one behind the attacks, a statement issued by the Dormaa West NDC Communications Officer, Stephen Sarfo, expressed regret at the failure of the police to effect any arrest, even though the incidents have been brought to their attention. The statement recalled the latest attacks which occurred over the weekend. “These hoodlums led by the NPP constituency organiser Bala Mohammed ransacked and destroyed many properties of the radio station and launched severe beatings on Paul kwabena Amenya and the rest of the people. “As if that was not enough, these NPP attackers continued the violent attack on Stephen Sarfo the NDC constituency Communications officer on the Sunday afternoon at the Nkrankwanta lorry park.” It therefore warned, “We herein wish to state unequivocally that the NDC in Dormaa West Constituency have all that it takes to defend itself or respond to such attacks with equal measure but for our respect for the rule of law, our peaceful and tolerant nature coupled with our quest to ensure that the peace and stable democratic state we handed over to the Nana Addo-led government is maintained.” Below is the full statement VIOLENT ATTACKS ON NDC EXECUTIVES IN DORMAA WEST BY THE NPP. 06/01/2020 We wish to bring to the notice of the media and the general public, the unwarranted attacks carried out by thugs of the Dormaa West Member of Parliament, Ali Maiga Halidu (Hon.) on The NDC’s Constituency Communication Officer, communicators and Organizer Hon. Paul kwabena Amenya on Saturday evening, just after the NDC hour program on Nsoromma FM (92.1MHz) dubbed Moment of Truth. These hoodlums led by the NPP constituency organiser Bala Mohammed ransacked and destroyed many properties of the radio station and launched severe beatings on Hon .Amenya and the rest of the people. As if that was not enough, these NPP attackers continued the violent attack on Stephen Sarfo the NDC constituency Communications officer on the Sunday afternoon at the Nkrankwanta lorry park. For the records, this happens to be the second time such politically motivated attack has been meted at us, of which the media and other relevant stakeholders are aware of. These macho men from the NPP have vowed to do everything within their means to close down Nsroma FM as they have done with Radio Gold and Montie FM because they perceived it’s a pro NDC Radio station. We are aware of the clandestine moves to undertake another violent attack come Saturday and the Subsequent day. We wish to further draw the attention of the general public, media, Nananom, Local Peace Council and the security apparatus about the violent attacks sanctioned by the Member of Parliament whose quest to retain his seat knows no bounds. And as a result, he is ready to intimidate, use cruel means and instigate violent attacks on his political opponents within the Constituency. We are not surprise that no form of arrest or prosecution was made in the first violent attack and that has given the NPP thugs in Dormaa West the impetus and effrontery to continue their evil and violent attacks on us. We herein wish to state unequivocally that the NDC in Dormaa West Constituency have all that it takes to defend itself or respond to such attacks with equal measure but for our respect for the rule of law, our peaceful and tolerant nature coupled with our quest to ensure that the peace and stable democratic state we handed over to the Nana Addo-led government is maintained. As at the time of issuing this release, our Organizer who sustained several wounds on the body including an eye trauma as a result of severe beatings by the NPP thugs has been discharged. The matter has since been reported to the police pending investigation. We hereby wish to issue a stern warning to the Member of Parliament for Dormaa West and his over pampered NPP thugs that, in fact this would be the very last time we (NDC) will become victims of such politically motivated attacks. We invite well-meaning and peace loving Ghanaians, CSOs and Religious Authorities etc to condemn this attack going into the general elections this year. Thank you.
