The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani, has sent a delegation of chiefs from the Northern Regional Traditional Council to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to render an unqualified apology to management.

The august visit by the delegation led by the Guntingli Naa Kamaldeen Shahadu was to also assure the staff of the Hospital of their preparedness to defend and protect them against any further untoward action by any youth group in the region.

Other members of the delegation were Secretar to the Gukpegu, Chief Mohammed Rashad Abdulai, Secretary to the Chief of Commence, Dakpama Mohammed Abdul Rashid, Registrar of the Northern Regional Traditional Council, Mohammed Adam Garba.

“The Regent together with the overlords of the other kingdoms in the northern region have also asked us to render an apology to staff and to assure you that last Tuesday’s incident will be surely be the last of its kind,” Naa Kamaldeen Shahadu told management of the hospital.

He said the traditional council was pleased with the fact that management did not allow Tuesday’s near violence action to affect healthcare delivery.

“It is with great joy that the Regent sends us to you to first of all thank you, the management, for not allowing the actions of our sons deter you from attending to the sick,” he said.

Some members of the Kandahar vigilante youth group stormed the Hospital at about 2:00pm Tuesday 22 February 2017 claiming they have intelligence that some other youth group was planning to storm the facility to forcefully eject the C.E.O from his office.

They consequently locked the office of the chief executive and it was until Thursday at about 11: 29am that the office was opened following an intervention by the Police.

The delegation revealed the Regent Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani summoned the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, to instruct them to make sure staff and the facility is protected.

Chief of Wurishie Adam Lansah advised management to work together by protecting the image of the facility, stating the fact that the reasons given by the vigilante group, Kandahar,  reveals there are bad nuts among staff who provide falsehood to the public.

The delegation was saddened by the absence of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Psper Akangbon at the meeting, and pleaded with management to deliver the apology  message to him.At the meeting were director of Medicals, Dr Abass Adam, Head of Human Resource Mohammed Misbao, Director of Pharmacy, Hamidu Abdulai, Deputy Administrator, Tanko Iddrisu, Director of Finanace Karim Kuuri, Acting Public Relations Officer Ahmed Fareed.

Responding to the delegation, Dr Abass Adam said some doctors and nurses fled the hospital as a result of the Tuesday incident but assured the chiefs that management will facilitate their return to the work.

“Our doctors who aren’t from here left. We called them and assured them of their safety but your coming will boost their confidence and we believe they will return soon once we send this information to them,” he said.

The delegation took the opportunity to tour the various wards and interactyed with some nurses and patients on admission.
