A resounding victory for Member of Parliament for Assin North, Gyakye Quayson; the clouds of legal uncertainty have finally parted after a gruelling three-year court battle.
The courageous lawmaker emerged unscathed following his acquittal and discharge, as decreed by the esteemed Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuh of the Accra High Court’s criminal jurisdiction.
Fearlessly facing accusations of perjury and other charges, Gyakye Quayson stood firm in the face of what he deemed a politically-motivated onslaught against him.
With unwavering confidence, he declared, “You all know the case was political, it was not factual. You heard the facts from the judges, documents were falsified just to get a conviction. But she has been very firm.”
Radiating gratitude and respect towards Lady Justice Mary Ekue Yanzuh, the emboldened MP exclaimed, “They were trying to prosecute me, but this is a court of law.
There is a difference between prosecution and persecution.” Amidst a backdrop of relentless pressure and scrutiny, Gyakye Quayson expressed his admiration for the judge’s integrity, lamenting the constraints that prevented him from expressing his gratitude in the courtroom.
Opting to tread the path of justice rather than succumbing to external pressures, Gyakye Quayson declined the Attorney General’s offer to halt the legal proceedings.
His unwavering resolve and faith in the legal system were vindicated when the prosecution’s case crumbled due to a lack of substantial evidence against him.
In a triumphant declaration resonating with pride and relief, Gyakye Quayson proclaimed, “This is justice for Assin North, and justice for Ghana. This is justice for everybody.”
Undeterred by the arduous trial, he remained steadfast in his commitment to uphold the principles of honesty and integrity, dedicating his hard-fought victory to his constituents and the nation at large.
