A delegation from the esteemed Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) graced the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) with their presence on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Led by the Mrs. Rosemond Aryeetey, the delegation presented PRINPAG’s National Executives with a comprehensive strategy document dedicated to furthering gender equality within the Ghanaian media sphere.
In attendance to welcome the delegation was the esteemed Vice President of PRINPAG, Mr. Michael Antwi-Agyei, who was accompanied by an esteemed team of Executive Committee members including Mr. Jeorge Wilson Kingson, Executive Secretary; Mr. Emmanuel Opare Gyan, Organizing Secretary; and Ms. LangFordia Amenyah, National Treasurer.

Project Vision:
Initiated three years ago in sync with Canal France International (CFI), MFWA’s laudable gender equality project aims to redress gender disparities prevalent in media content creation and operational practices throughout Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

Extensive consultations were undertaken with various stakeholders including media associations, journalists, civil society organizations (CSOs), academia, and policymakers.
Mrs. Aryeetey elaborated on the outcomes, detailing the creation of the “Strategy Document on Promoting Gender Equality in the Ghanaian Media,” a groundbreaking blueprint officially unveiled a fortnight ago. This strategic roadmap equips media entities with actionable guidelines to champion gender-sensitive policies and content creation, with a pilot phase executed in four chosen media houses presently under meticulous evaluation for potential nationwide emulation.

PRINPAG’s Pledge:
Expressing gratitude on behalf of PRINPAG, Vice President Antwi-Agyei effusively thanked MFWA for their visionary initiative. He reassured the delegation of PRINPAG’s unwavering commitment towards disseminating and encouraging the practical application of the strategy document across the newsrooms of privately owned newspapers and digital platforms in Ghana.
Mr. Antwi-Agyei underlined the paramount significance of gender equity in news dissemination and editorial operations, reaffirming PRINPAG’s proactive stance to actively implement the strategies outlined in the document.
Further, Mr. Wilson Kingson, the Executive Secretary of PRINPAG, acknowledged the prevalent gender disparities within the news publishing fraternity, propelling a clarion call for concerted action to rally support and nurture the aspirations of aspiring female media entrepreneurs. He proposed the integration of formal presentations during PRINPAG’s congregation to enhance comprehension and accessibility among the association’s members.

Future Endeavors:
The harmonious meeting concluded with unanimous concordance on the indispensable requirement for sustained collaboration between MFWA and PRINPAG to ensure the seamless execution of the strategic framework. Deliberations encompassed mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating gender inclusivity in news content, appraising advancements within newsrooms, and enkindling empowerment initiatives for women-led media platforms.
National Organizer of PRINPAG, Mr. Opare Gyan, urged for reinforcing support mechanisms to embolden and invigorate women within the news publishing realm, advocating for the establishment of female-centric newspapers and digital outlets.
The ceremonious presentation portends a pivotal juncture in augmenting gender parity within Ghana’s media sector, with both MFWA and PRINPAG solemnly vowing to transmute the strategy document into an operative instrument for catalyzing constructive transformations within the media fraternity.
