Local pharmaceutical giant, Ernest Chemist Limited, has stepped in to support the victims of the Atomic Junction gas explosion, which has caused six deaths since Saturday.
Brands Manager of the pharmaceutical retailing and distribution firm, Ernest Koranteng, told 3News they would be supply assorted medical items to the 37 Military Hospital, University of Ghana Hospital and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to take care of the affected victims.
A total of 35 people who were injured as a result of the Saturday night explosion are currently receiving medical attention at the 37 Military Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
Mr Koranteng said they have already approached the various health facilities to ascertain the extent of injuries based on which they would send the necessary medical supplies to them for the benefit of the victims.
He also called on corporate Ghana and other well meaning Ghanaians to come to the aid of the victims and assist the government to support the medical bills of those affected.
A gas leakage from one of two gas fuel stations in the Atomic Junction enclave reportedly sparked fire, which extended to an adjoining Total Filling Station causing two explosions that sent fireballs into the skies.
Hundreds of passengers, traders and residents in and around the Atomic Junction area fled their homes and workplaces for safety as the explosions lit the skies and caused severe heat waves.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who doused the fire and prevented it from spreading to another gas filling station nearby have been investigating the cause of the explosion, which is the eight major gas explosion to be recorded in the country within the last three years.
Officials of NADMO have also been on the ground since Saturday night when the incident happened trying to assess the magnitude of destruction for the necessary action to be taken.
