The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that power will be disrupted for customers within the Kumasi Ridge enclave fue to ongoing works under the Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme.
This programme across the country has seen power shed per schedule in communities such as Adenta, Nmai Dzorm, Lashibi, and Teshie-Nungua.
“The programme aims to improve power supply reliability and reduce system overloads within the network,” ECG said on Sunday in a statement issued by the General Manager of External Communications, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku.
On the exercise in the Ashanti Region, ECG noted that it will require the upgrade of an existing 20/26MVA power transformer to a higher-capacity 30/39MVA unit.
It is scheduled to be carried out from Wednesday, May 6 to Saturday, May 9.
“To ensure the safe execution of the works, there will be phased and scheduled power interruptions within the Kumasi Ridge catchment area,” the state’s power-distribution company said.
“Each affected group is expected to experience outages lasting approximately six (6) hours, depending on the work schedule.”
The upgrade is expected to increase power supply capacity in the Kumasi Ridge area, reduce system overloads and equipment failures, minimise the frequency and duration of outages and improve voltage stability and overall service reliability.
ECG acknowledged the inconvenience the temporary interruptions may cause and assured customers that the exercise is necessary to achieve long-term improvements in electricity supply.
“ECG remains committed to strengthening Ghana’s power distribution network through sustained investment in infrastructure and proactive maintenance in support of national development.”
