General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the appointment of Martin Alamisi Amidu as the Special Prosecutor, is an indication that the New Patriotic Party government has an agenda, perhaps against the NDC.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia did not understand why Mr. Amidu whom he said has openly shown dislike for one political party to be appointed to such an office.
Mr. Amidu, who is a staunch anti-graft campaigner and a member of the National Democratic Congress, was on Thursday nominated the first Special Prosecutor by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House.
He considers himself as a member of the cadres, the core members who believe in the ideals of probity, integrity and accountability championed by former president Rawlings.
But Mr. Asiedu Nketia told Alfred Ocansey, sit-in-host of 3FM’s Sunrise on Friday, that “a person who has stated his position against one party and you appoint such person, then it means you have an agenda”.
“He has come out to say appointees of Mahama are corrupt and now you have given him the post, it means if he is not able to deliver, that will mean he lied to Ghanaians. You are now going to work to justify your earlier claims or you lied”, General Mosquito explained.
He was certain the government and the Special Prosecutor would want to “pursue an agenda”.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia further noted, “if you claim the bill is unconstitutional and you accept a position which is unconstitutional then that is contradictory and we hope during the vetting, it will come out clear”.
Asked whether the NDC is afraid of his appointment, the NDC scribe wondered, “why should anybody be afraid of such an appointment?”
“I have known him and I have no doubt about his performance,” he conceded, “he is a founding member of NDC but some of his actions are being investigated and that has not been concluded”.
