The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has requested Ghanaians to jealously protect the Double-Track System so that the country can guard against human wastage.
The sector minister made the remark when he paid a surprised visit to some senior high schools in the Tamale metropolis to have firsthand experience on the execution of the transition from the ‘green track’ to the ‘gold track’ under the system.
“As a country we are doing this to protect human wastage,” Mr. Opoku Prempeh stated.
The visit is also to get feedback from the head teachers to help solve the challenges confronting the system, he noted.
The visit took the minister to Tamale Senior High School, Northern Business School, Vitting Senior High School, and Dabokpaa Technical Institute.
All the head teachers of the schools the sector minister visited appealed for infrastructural development to aid in teaching and learning.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh assured the schools of government’s commitment to ensure that resources are made available at places they are needed to sustain the double-track system in order to open opportunity for more students to be admitted.
He was however not enthused with the quality of students enrolled in some of the schools, and encouraged both teachers and students to do more, “to uplift their performances since the current one does not befit the region.”
Though the reopening date for students placed on the gold track is Saturday November 10, 2018, 3news.com’s checks revealed that students in the various schools began arriving on Wednesday November 7, 2018 with just a handful yet to report.
