Akyem-Manso-Akroso: DCE unhappy as male, female patients share wards

DCE for Asene-Manso-Akroso Alex Incoom

District Chief Executive of Asene-Manso-Akroso (AMA) Alex Incoom has bemoaned the state of the only health facility in the district capital.

Akyem Akroso is predominantly a farming community with a population of over 30,000 in the Asene-Manso-Akroso District of the Eastern Region.

It has only one health center that provides healthcare services for the people and other 60 surrounding communities.

The health center was constructed in 1961 by then Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia government and had since not received any facelift.

Successive governments have equally failed to revamp the center and this has compelled healthcare officers to allow male and female patients share one ward.

Lack of proper equipment discourages people from accessing healthcare at the center, which to a large extent has increased the pressure on Akyem Oda Government Hospital.

All this was revealed by the DCE in an interview with Nana Yaw Opare, popularly known as  Wofa,  on Mantam Mpuntuo on Onua FM.

He, however, indicated that the district has started the construction of a 40-bed capacity male and female facility to curb the situation.

The project, according to DCE, is partly funded by their Member of Parliament, George Kwame Aboagye, and it is expected to be completed and be operational early next year to enhance better health care services in the area.

Other healthcare centers like CHPS compounds at various communities within the district are also receiving facelift.

Mr Incoom added that health centre in the district capital, Akyem Manso, is also about to receive massive renovation and expansion to meet the status of a district hospital.

All these infrastructural development on health centers in the district, he said, are geared towards enhancing better healthcare services and therefore called for support from philanthropist and corporate entities to help the assembly realize its vision for proper health care.

Mr Incoom reiterated the Assembly’s commitment towards delivering proper health care and thus appealed to Ghana Health Service (GHS) to send qualified health professionals and workers to the district to help ensure good health for the people.
