Director of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Agnes Teye-Cudjoe has said the examinations body will go ahead with its plan of conducting the examination for final year students in spite of some schools recording Covid-19 cases. She told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM Wednesday that the Council is in constant engagement with the Ghana Education Service (GES) on the impending examinations. Asked whether WAEC will suspend the examinations this year, she said: “We will cross the bridge when we get there”. Following the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo that schools…
Chair of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council Michael Nsowah has said it is too early to decide whether or not to suspend schools, following the some senior high schools recording Covid-19 cases. He told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise morning programme on 3FM Wednesday that the GES will wait for an update from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Heath Services on the situation to determine whether or not to close down schools. His comments come after the President of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, called for the closure of the schools, following the current…
Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was at the Obaasima Summit in 2019 encouraging women to take their place in society. The maiden women-empowerment programme saw the former Minister of Education appear as one of the key speakers. She noted how women who are perceived illiterates have made a strong case about the capabilities of women in the Ghanaian society. Prof Opoku-Agyemang said despite not appearing in laboratory coats as seen at medical facilities, the woman on the farm who harvests palm kernel turns it scientifically into palm oil and other products. “[That]…
The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has called on the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to consider additional mechanisms in enhancing safety at all registration centres. According to Codeo, despite the ample space at most registration centres, its observers noted that EC officials could not ensure social distancing of applicants in queues. This was contained in the report released by the election-observing body on Phase One of the ongoing voter registration exercise. The phase started on Tuesday, June 30 and ended Sunday, July 5. In its report, Codeo said EC officials did well in checking the temperatures of applicants at…
Final year students of the KNUST SHS in the Ashanti Region went on rampage Tuesday night after they accused authorities of neglecting a sick student who later died at the hospital. The irate students vandalized properties including a vehicle belonging to the headmistress. Narrating the incident to journalists, the students said the deceased could have survived if the authorities had supported them to convey him to hospital. But they said the teachers left the student for more than three hours because they suspected he had contracted Covid-19 and did not want to come near him. Police have been stationed at…

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has appointed Joseph Yaw Adu as its acting Chief Executive Officer. Mr Yaw Adu, who is currently a member of the new board put in place by the club, is expected to bring his years of expertise to bear on the new role. A retired Director of Sports at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he has a strong bias for youth development. Occasionally, he speaks of how Kotoko can make more gains should the team adopt the academy approach, where players come up the ladder instead of buying them on the open market.…
Chelsea further strengthened their position in the Premier League’s top four with victory over Crystal Palace in an entertaining encounter at Selhurst Park, that included a stunning long-range strike from Wilfried Zaha and a rare goal from Christian Benteke. There was an element of fortune about the game’s opening goal, with Palace defender Gary Cahill pulling up with a match-ending injury to allow Willian to charge into the box unimpeded and set up Olivier Giroud to finish. But the rest of the match was a testament to the kind of competitive, high-octane, see-saw football that draws so many viewers to…
President Donald Trump has formally moved to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization (WHO). The president had made his intentions clear in late May, accusing the WHO of being under China’s control in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite calls from the EU and others, he said he would pull out of the UN agency and redirect funds elsewhere. He has now notified the UN and Congress of his intentions, although the process could take at least a year. Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, confirmed the US had notified it of its withdrawal, effective as…
