It is a modern player’s prerogative to change his mind. That has been one of the tricky things about completing football transfers. Club administrators usually keep their cards to their chest until all this done before the final reveal and this as Michael Essien revealed in is recent interview proves it quite evidently. Essien in the interview revealed that he was very close to joining Liverpool back in 2002 – just a year after he had moved to play his football for French side, Bastia. The midfielder at the time was one of the most promising players in Europe and…
The Ghana Embassy in the United States of America (USA) has revealed that 20 Ghanaians have died from the coronavirus in that part of the world. Kofi Tonto, an official at the Public Affairs Department at the Embassy, told Alfred Ocansey in an interview on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM Monday, May 18 that this figure was generated from members of the Ghanaian community especially in New York and New Jersey, which are the hardest hit cities in the US as far as Covid-19 is concerned. Mr Tonto said the embassy is yet to obtain official data on the…
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the recent response by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to his concerns of a rigging ploy “doesn’t make sense to me”. He said there are huge discrepancies in the number of registrants in strongholds of his party and those of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr Ofosu Ampofo alleged recently at a press conference that the NIA is colluding with the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to rig the December 7 polls for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. But the Authority dismissed the allegations, challenging the largest opposition party…
National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has raised concerns that a compilation of a new voters’ register could see more minors getting registered. He said this issue, which was a challenge to the Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan-led Electoral Commission (EC) in 2012, has been corrected over the years. But compiling a new register now, Mr Ofosu Ampofo argued, will see that problem rearing its head again. The NDC National Chairman expressed this concern on 100 Degrees on Onua TV on Monday, May 18. The largest opposition party has made its position on the decision by…
Tanzania has revealed plans of opening up its country to start receiving tourists. The move, according to the country’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, was taken after meetings between the Ministry and stakeholders in the country’s tourism sector. With over 509 cases and 21 deaths, as of Monday, May 18, Tanzania is one of the fewer hit countries when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. As countries are beginning to open up gradually, the East African nation believes that the time is right for it to start receiving tourists. This will, however, be done with caution, Dr. Hamisi A.…
It has finally happened. As the world watched on, and with a strict set of hygiene rules in place, the German Bundesliga became the first major European league to get back under way. And while plenty of aspects were different from before, it would be no exaggeration to call it an historic matchday – not least due to a change in the rules. FIFA.com looks at 10 things that we noticed over the weekend. Same same but different Of course it was totally different – but once we got into it, it was much like it always had been. Erling…
General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) boycotted the last meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) held on March 25, 2020 at the EC Conference Room. He said the NDC then cited the Covid-19 situation in the country as their excuse for boycotting that meeting. According to John Boadu, it was at that very meeting that the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) discussed details of its proposed amendments to the existing Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2016 (C.I. 91) for the conduct of Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.…
National Coordinator for Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) Albert Kofi Arhin has disclosed that no individual or an institution can manipulate results in favour of any political party in Ghana. Mr Arhin asserts that Ghana has a watertight electoral system which would not allow anyone to rig elections for any political party. The former Director of Operations at the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) expressed these when speaking on the Yensempa morning show on Onua FM on Monday, May 18. He stressed that the electoral process from the stage of compiling a register is keenly monitored by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other international bodies…

Two students of the University of Ghana have launched an online petition, rallying support from fellow students to demand partial refund of academic and residential fees from authorities. According to the students, Kojo Danquah and Sampson Tagbor, there is a seeming breach of agreement between students and the university as academic work has switched online. “We are of the strong conviction that the agreement for academic tuition and residency the University had with students prior to admission and registration are hinged on the invaluable face-to-face lecture delivery by lecturers, social contact and academic interactions among students and direct access to…
