South African football chief Danny Jordaan has hailed the efforts of Ghana at the 2010 World Cup and the general contribution the country made in changing the continent’s fortunes in the tournament. As Africa celebrates 10 years since hosting the World Cup, this week has been filled with reliving the memories of the past tournament and Ghana has been the centre of it all – given the strides the Black Stars showed at the tournament. “When the Bafana Bafana dropped out, it left us with only one African team and that was Ghana and we had hoped that Ghana was going…

A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the Central Region, Dr. Isaac Brako, says the unrelenting protest and resistance by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the intended new voter register would affect the party’s prospects of winning back power in the December 7 polls. He says it would largely affect the party, especially their incumbent Members of Parliament as well as parliamentary candidates at orphan constituencies, if attention is not shifted towards mobilizing the party’s supporters to massively partake in the exercise when it commences. The UEW Lecturer made this known on Yensempa on…

The Spokesperson of the King of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, says the eminent king did not support outright calls for the inclusion of the existing voters’ ID cards for the upcoming registration. Baba Issifu told Stephen Anti on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, June 11 that what the Yaa-Naa said was that the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) must ensure that a large section of the voter population is covered during the registration. A group calling itself Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement on Wednesday petitioned the revered King of Dagbon over the EC’s resolve to compile a new register without recourse…
Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast Archbishop Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle has made a strong case for the renewal and transformation of the minds of Ghanaians in order to achieve government’s vision of Ghana Beyond Aid. Archbishop Palmer-Buckle was speaking at a virtual forum hosted by the Office of the Senior Minister on Thursday, June 11 on how the country can brace the coronavirus…
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the spread of the coronavirus pandemic is “accelerating” in Africa, which has so far been the least affected continent. The outbreak is being driven by 10 countries, which accounted for two thirds of about 200,000 confirmed cases on the continent, WHO Africa head Dr Matshidiso Moeti said. South Africa was the worst hit, with the situation in the Western Cape looking similar to Europe. Most of the continent’s Covid-19 cases are concentrated in and around capital cities, but infections are now also spreading outside major urban areas, Dr Moeti added. She warned…

The Medical Superintendent at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, Dr Eben Oduro Mensah, has revealed that the centre is reducing the number of Covid-19 patients at the treatment base because of limited space for the increasing numbers. He told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM Thursday, June 11 that the facility only has 20 out of the 100 beds left to accommodate the patients, hence the need to send some of them, especially the asymptomatic ones to other treatment centres. The number of Covid-19 cases in Ghana has gone up to 10, 358, the Ghana Health Service…
