A Zimbabwean lawyer has filed a court challenge to the government’s decision to ban the use of international currencies in the country. Godfrey Mupanga says the government’s monetary policy is unreasonable, illegal and unconstitutional. He argues that the finance minister does not have the power to amend the law. The second edition of Connect FM’s Street Rap Battle took off at Effiakuma in the Western Region with great performances from 14 underground rap artistes. A suspected stowaway who is believed to have fallen from the landing gear of a flight into Heathrow Airport has been found dead in a London garden. The body – believed to be that of a man – was found in Clapham just before 15:40 BST on Sunday. Police said it was thought the individual fell from a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi. The National Security Council Secretariat has flatly denied allegations that it subjected one of the arrested journalists of online news portal Modern Ghana to acts of torture. “We consider it to be a clear and deliberate attempt by the suspect to discredit the investigations and the case against him,” the Council said in a statement issued on Monday. Pressure group Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) has written to the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) to probe two former appointees of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). The appointees – Eric Amoako Twum and Akilu Sajyibu – have been cited in the Auditor-General’s 2017 report for taking clothing allowances six months after they were relieved of their positions.
