The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) has showered praise on the government for its recent directive to metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) to appoint at least one person living with disabilities (PWDs) for service. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has responded to concerns raised by the national broadcaster over the television broadcast rights of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League. In a statement earlier on Thursday, January 9, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) pointed out that despite submitting a bid higher in value, the GFA handed the television rights to StarTimes. Small-scale mining is still legal in Ghana and it reserved only for Ghanaians, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, said on Thursday. He said all illegal mining activities were being weeded out of the system, with many of the foreigners caught engaging in them arrested and being prosecuted, while those of West African origins had been deported. Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber has revealed he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. “It’s been a rough couple years,” the 25-year-old wrote on Instagram, adding that he was also suffering from a chronic viral infection. The star said he was aware of social media speculation that he had a drug problem, after he was pictured looking unwell with blotches on his skin. Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been ruled out until April after the club said he needed surgery on a hamstring injury. The strike action by Technical University Tutors Association of Ghana (TUTAG) and Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has started biting hard at Kumasi Technical University. Ghana’s quest at playing a pivotal role in the oil and gas industry has received another significant boost with the design and fabrication of two topside FPSO modules at the Takoradi Port by wholly Ghanaian owned Belmet 7.
