Government has been urged to give a deliberate rethink to the use of “operatives” of National Security Council in some operations. According to civil society group Africa Centre for Security and Counter Terrorism, the National Security is following a trend of acting “as if independent of the statutory state security agencies”. The authorities in Nigeria’s Lagos state are searching for survivors after a boat with at least 17 people on board, capsized on Saturday night. In a statement they say they suspect that it capsized due to overloading adding that the vessel “was overturned by the heavy current”. The passenger boat had been travelling from Ajah on Lagos Island to Ikorodu on the mainland when the incident happened. Carrying more fat on legs compared with the stomach protects postmenopausal women from heart disease, a study says. Women of a healthy weight with the highest risk of stroke or heart disease had the most belly fat and the least hip and thigh fat, the European Heart Journal research found. The National Security Ministry has explained the circumstances that led to the arrest of two editors and the subsequent raid of the offices of media firm Modern Ghana on Thursday, June 27.
