The Northern Regional Police Command says it has resolved – with the help of the military – to dominate Chereponi and Saboba in the face of tribal conflict. The two districts in the Northern Region have been engaged in the ethnic conflict between the Konkombas and Chokosis. It has spanned five days and not even a dawn-to-dusk curfew has deterred the tribes from attacking each other. On Friday, two separate attacks left at least one dead. Some three communities, namely Shidoto, Tigenga and Kunajiku, were also torched. Three communities burnt in Chereponi despite curfew; one feared dead But speaking on…
Information gathered by 3news.com indicates that the Chereponi and Saboba districts are gradually becoming a den for lawbreakers due to the incessant defiance of the dusk-to-dawn curfew. As a result, military officers dispatched to man the areas have been advised to treat everyone they find with offensive weapons as a rebel, a source says. This also follows series of discussions among security heads owing to the five-day siege in communities in the two districts. Meanwhile, a reprisal attack by the Chokosis Friday morning saw two Konkomba communities, namely Nanchem and Tambong, torched as residents fled to neighbouring Togo. This was…

The perception surrounding Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s capability to fight corruption prior to his assumption of office is eroding, a panelist on TV3’s The Key Points has opined. Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Dr Ahmed Jinapor says the “messianic figure” portrayed by Nana Akufo-Addo while a flagbearer as an apostle of anti-corruption is seriously in doubt. He was contributing to discussions on the programme on Saturday, January 5 on the two-year performance of the incumbent government. Monday, January 7, 2019 will mark exactly two years since Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn in as the 5th president of…
One’s environment has an influence on their mindset. The way we think is directly or indirectly due to where we have lived and what we have been exposed to. Little wonder some narratives we grew up exposed to have eventually become a part of us. Though some of these are toxic, we have never noticed because we have been exposed to such for so long a time that they have become a norm. 2019 years after the death of Christ, we can’t still be accommodating such toxicity in our minds. The world has advanced. 19 years after the second millennium,…
US President Donald Trump has said he could declare a national emergency to build a US-Mexico border wall without the approval of Congress. It came after he met senior Democrats, who refused his requests for funding. The stand-off has seen Mr Trump withhold support for a bill to fully fund the government until he gets money for the border wall. He said he was prepared for the partial government shutdown – now in its third week – to last years. Around 800,000 federal workers have been without pay since 22 December. Trump aides and lawmakers will meet later on Saturday…
