New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akwapim South Constituency Osei Bonsu Amoah says the government may not have the luxury of time in triggering the process to have a new Chair for the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC). Parliamentary sitting was on Friday suspended following news of the passing of the immediate past vice president of Ghana, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur. Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was Vice President from 2012 to 2017, passed away Friday morning after collapsing during a morning work-out at the Air Force Gym in Accra. He was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital but could not survive. After the news reached Parliament mid-morning Friday, sitting was immediately suspended. Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed his condolences to the family of former Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, who passed away on Friday. On Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released the eighteenth annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The report assesses the efforts of governments around the world to fight human trafficking, including in the United States. Ed Sheeran is being sued for $100m (£76.4m) for allegedly copying parts of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. It’s alleged the singer ripped off sections of the 1973 classic for his number one hit Thinking Out Loud. Legal documents in the US allege it copies “the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping”.
