New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akwapim South Constituency Osei Bonsu Amoah says the government may not have the luxury of time in triggering the process to have a new Chair for the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC). Parliamentary sitting was on Friday suspended following news of the passing of the immediate past vice president of Ghana, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur. Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was Vice President from 2012 to 2017, passed away Friday morning after collapsing during a morning work-out at the Air Force Gym in Accra. Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed his condolences to the family of former Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, who passed away on Friday. On Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released the eighteenth annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The report assesses the efforts of governments around the world to fight human trafficking, including in the United States. This year’s TIP Report notes the Government of Ghana’s increased efforts to combat human trafficking in 2017, including implementing a national anti-trafficking plan, prosecuting and convicting an increased number of labor and sex traffickers, and increasing cooperation across anti-trafficking government agencies. Ed Sheeran is being sued for $100m (£76.4m) for allegedly copying parts of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. It’s alleged the singer ripped off sections of the 1973 classic for his number one hit Thinking Out Loud. Legal documents in the US allege it copies “the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping”. Ed has already faced legal action over the same track – and has always denied the allegations.
