Solicitors of a Deputy Chief of Staff, Francis Asenso-Boakye, have written to musician Kwame Asare Obeng to apologise and retract “defamatory” claims or else they file a suit on behalf of their client against him. The claims were said to have been published on social media by the musician, popularly known as A-Plus. Ugandans who use the internet messaging service WhatsApp will be charged a daily tax of 200 shillings ($0.05; £0.04) after parliament approved a controversial new law on Wednesday. It comes into force on 1 July, and will also apply to other social media apps like Facebook. Mobile money transactions will also be taxed, with a 1% levy on the total value of each transaction. The national Under-17 women’s team has been drawn in Group A of the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Ghana’s Black Maidens will play in the group alongside hosts Uruguay, New Zealand and Finland.
