The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) says the decision by the board of directors of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for Director General Dr Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow to proceed on leave is wrong. The Association said the decision infringes upon the 1992 Constitution, which gives such powers to the National Media Commission (NMC). Seven TV crew members have been arrested at a US airport after allegedly trying to film the smuggling of a fake bomb through security. The incident happened on Thursday at Newark Liberty in New Jersey. Transport officials said a bag carrying an item with “all the makings of an improvised explosive device” was found before it had cleared security. US media say the crew were part of a reality show being made by a production company for CNBC. The Director of Legal Division at the National Communications Authority (NCA), Abena Asafo Adjei, has told an Accra High Court that monies withdrawn from the Authority’s account and used in purchasing cyber security equipment did not have the approval of the board. A Canadian woman has been convicted of killing her friend after police discovered the murder weapon used in a picture of the pair on social media. Cheyenne Rose Antoine, 21, pleaded guilty on Monday to killing Brittney Gargol, then 18, in March 2015. Gargol was found strangled to death near a landfill in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with Antoine’s belt near her body. Antoine was sentenced to seven years for manslaughter.
