The police officer alleged to have shot and killed a student and injured another in the Western Region Friday night will make his first court appearance on Wednesday, December 27. Corporal Adjei Shaibu of the Inchaban Police Station is reported to have shot at five students at Nyankrom in the Shama District of the Region, killing Lawrence Joe Baidoo, 18, instantly. A Peruvian football official accused of taking bribes has been cleared by a jury in the US. Manuel Burga, who led football in Peru until 2014, was accused of taking cash in exchange for distributing marketing and media rights to matches. Two other South American football officials were convicted by the same jury on Friday. During the trial, Mr Burga denied he threatened a key witness by making a throat-slashing gesture. More demands have been made on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take punitive action against security guards who assaulted journalists at the party’s head office last Thursday. The guards manhandled the journalists in an attempt to stop them from covering a demonstration by some members of the party.
