President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is advocating for stronger trading and investment relations with Denmark, following a 3-day official visit to the country by the Queen of Denmark, Her Majesty Margrethe II. According to President Akufo-Addo, there is a long history between Ghana and Denmark, dating as far back as the 17th century, evidenced, for example, in one of the greatest assets of the nation bearing a Danish name, the Christiansborg Castle, which, until recently, was the seat of government. He indicated further that “we are looking forward to develop those relations, and we hope your visit will help cement…
Zimbabwe must act quickly to dig its economy out of a hole and access international financial aid, the International Monetary Fund has warned. Government spending and foreign debt are too high and it needs structural reform, Zimbabwe mission chief Gene Leon told Reuters news agency. The country’s incoming leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged to grow the economy and provide “jobs, jobs, jobs”. The once-thriving economy is now seen as a regional basket case. “The economic situation in Zimbabwe remains very difficult,” Mr Leon told Reuters. He said high government spending should be reined in and Zimbabwe should address the large…
The Medical Director of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Dr Eugene Dordoye, has apologised to staff of the hospital for the recent developments that have seen the latter embark on a sit-down strike. The staff had petitioned the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, last month, citing reasons why they want Dr Dordoye removed from office. They threatened a number of industrial actions if the Minister as well as the Mental Health Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, the Central Region Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA), who were copied in the petition, failed to meet their demands. A sit-down strike…

The Winneba High Court has ordered the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to reorganise general elections within 21 days. According to the application filed by contestants, the Mampong and Kumasi campuses were excluded from the voting exercise, thus disenfranchising members there. Presided over by Justice Ato Mills Graves, the Court…
The Director in charge of Academics and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) has said the issue of unemployment in the country is a motivating factor to activities of vigilante groups. According to Dr. Kwesi Aning, the non-existence of jobs for the youth leads them to find alternative means of benefitting from the public purse since they do not have any means of livelihood. Speaking at the 3rd edition of the Accra Dialogue under the theme ‘The Scars of Vigilantism: A Legal of Political Question?’, the renowned security expert said vigilantism threatens the legal and political…
When Albert Adomah completed Aston Villa’s comeback in a three-goal thriller against Queens Park Rangers in the English Championship, it seemed he had completed his comeback in a dwindling career. A muted celebration did not do justice to what seemed a vital milestone in the Ghana winger’s career. He had shone in the past, fallen and risen again. Adomah has epitomized highly successful American businessman, Les Brown’s words, that ‘Just because fate doesn’t deal you the right cards, it doesn’t mean you should give up’. It just means you have to play the cards you get to their maximum potential.…
