The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Michael Okyere Baafi, has disclosed that government has changed the concept of the Ghana Free Zones Board from being an “occult group” during the past administration. Mr Okyere Baafi said the time when the Free Zones Board became a privilege of only a few people who don’t account to the people of Ghana is past. He reiterated that innovation and new ideas are now in place to ensure expansion of the concept and to get more companies involved. He said the previous administration prevented some companies from benefitting from the…

A Canadian man has filed a lawsuit against Sunwing Airlines for promising a champagne service and instead serving sparkling wine. Daniel Macduff booked a holiday to Cuba through Sunwing that advertised a complimentary on-board champagne toast. Mr Macduff, from Quebec, said he received a cheaper bubbly instead – and only on the outgoing flight. The airline said it believes the lawsuit “to be frivolous and without merit”. Mr Macduff’s lawyer says the class action hinges on misleading marketing and not the quality of the wine served. “It’s not about the pettiness of champagne versus sparkling wine,” said Montreal-based lawyer Sébastien…

Ghana’s Black Starlets will battle it out with African champions Mali for a semi-final place in the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in India. Ghana booked a place to play in the quarter-final on Wednesday when they saw off the Junior Menas of Niger 2-0 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Captain Eric Ayiah and striker Richard Danso – who is gradually becoming a super-sub for the Starlets – scored in each half for the Ghanaians. Their goals came in stoppage times of each half. Ayiah could have, however, increased his goal tally at the tournament to…
Former Trades Minister Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has labelled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as an ethnic-based party and having been so for at least the past 16 years. He said no wonder a senior member of that party can claim that only five regions can produce a president for Ghana. Speaking on the sidelines of his party’s announcement of some major decisions from the Kwesi Botchwey report, Dr Spio-Garbrah insisted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the only party in Ghana that is really national. “It’s a national party that on a normal day has more supporters than NPP…

ACP Addo-Danquah’s promotion comes amidst controversy over a leaked…
Former Minister of Trades and Industry Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah is upbeat about his chances of leading the largest opposition party for the 2020 presidential elections. It will be the second time the former African Development Bank (AfDB) employee will be contesting the presidential primary if he files his nomination. He thinks though it will be tough contesting with the names so far making rounds, “I have an idea of what it takes to run in this race”. “I have been in tougher races,” he told MG News’ Komla Klutse on Tuesday. “You think competing against Mr Eddie Annan, Alhaji Iddrisu…
Leicester City have sacked manager Craig Shakespeare just four months after he signed a three-year deal to take the job on a permanent basis. The Foxes are third from bottom in the Premier League and have not won any of their past six league matches. Michael Appleton will take caretaker charge of the squad, who were not told in advance of Shakespeare’s sacking. Their next game is against Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday. Shakespeare won eight of his 16 games in charge last…
