Barely 48 hours after TV3’s report on the invasion of cocoa farms by armyworms within the Ejisu-Juaben and Mampong municipalities of the Ashanti Region, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has intervened. The Cocoa Health Extension Division of COCOBOD has presented several boxes of insecticide to affected cocoa farmers to control the spread of the pests. Youth who fled Ekpu, a fishing community near Half Assini in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, for fear of being brutalized by police are yet to return to the town, according to the Assemblyman of the community. The world’s first vaccine against malaria will be introduced in three countries – Ghana, Kenya and Malawi – starting in 2018. The RTS,S vaccine trains the immune system to attack the malaria parasite, which is spread by mosquito bites. The World Health Organization (WHO) said the jab had the potential to save tens of thousands of lives. But it is not yet clear if it will be feasible to use in the poorest parts of the world. Students of Bolgatanga Polytechnic on Monday staged a demonstration against executive of the Students Representative Council (SRC) over what they say is the mismanagement of funds. A 12-year-old boy who was apparently trying to drive across Australia has been stopped by police 1,300km (800 miles) into his journey. The boy was pulled over in Broken Hill in the New South Wales outback on Saturday after a patrol noticed the car’s bumper dragging on the ground. Police said the boy had been attempting to drive 4,000km from Kendall in NSW to Perth, Western Australia. He was arrested and taken to Broken Hill police station.
