Veteran musician Awurama Badu has passed away after battling with a long sickness. She died on Thursday night at the Effiduase Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region. One of the prolific highlife musicians, Awurama Badu is known for songs like ‘Komkom’ and ‘Emelia’. Three years ago, she was on TV3’s New Day to talk about an upcoming Valentine’s Day programme. The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has directed the Central Regional Command to take over the investigation of the alleged defilement of a four-year-old at Assin Adadientem in the Assin Fosu District. The victim was defiled by one Kwabena, who is on the run. He is said to have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the ‘gods’ of Adadientem through the local chief in what has stirred public anger. Some members of staff of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in the Central Region are demanding the removal of Hospital Director Dr Eugene Dordoye. The Concerned Staff have, therefore, petitioned the Minister of Health through the Mental Health Authority to take immediate steps to relieve Dr Dordoye of his post. The commissioning of the south leg of the 33-kilometer Kwafokrom-Apedwa road and the Suhum bypass has been postponed. The Minister of Roads, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, who was expected to commission the section of the road on Wednesday, cancelled it after concerns of safety were raised by residents. Officials from the Ghana Highway Authority, journalists, contractors and residents waited for the arrival of the minister from 3pm Wednesday till 9:15 pm. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has debunked claims that it inflated the cost of the new smart licenses. The DVLA at a press conference on Tuesday mentioned that from November, it will be introducing a vehicle documentation Smart Card to replace paper-based car registration process. The new drive is expected to reduce the human interface in the acquisition of licenses and also cut down the cost involved.
