President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver his maiden address to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 21. He will also hold a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres the next day. The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North and a Deputy Minister of Education, Barbara Asher Ayisi, has called on the parents in the Central Region to invest in the education of their children. The Deputy of Education in charge of Basic Education urged pupils in basic schools to stop watching telenovelas. Speaking to Onua FM’s Central Region correspondent Kwame Kakarba after embarking on ‘My First Day AT School’ tour, Mrs Ayisi said the telenovelas have negative effects on their education and therefore cautioned them not to watch. Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) Kenneth Ashigbey has tendered in his resignation letter, 3news.com can confirm. Mr Ashigbey wrote to employer National Media Commission (NMC) to relinquish his post. In a letter sighted by 3news.com and dated September 14, 2017, Mr Ashigbey assured staff of GCGL that its leadership “is secure and all our plans are progressing very well”. The new smart ‘Ghana Card’ shall be the only card to be used in transactions where identification is required as provided by law, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said. He added that the card will bring to an end the phenomenon of several agencies taking the biometric details of Ghanaian citizens. An “improvised explosive device” was detonated on a Tube train in south-west London during Friday’s rush hour, Scotland Yard has confirmed. The blast, at Parsons Green station on an eastbound District Line train from Wimbledon, is being treated as terrorism, police said. Twenty-two people are being treated in hospital, mostly for burn injuries. Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said hundreds of detectives, working with MI5, are investigating the explosion. The first wave of tickets for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia went on sale on Thursday. Fans can submit their applications via the Fifa website and tickets will be sold in two phases. Prices will range from £79 for a second-round group match to £829 for the final in Moscow.
