Ghana won two prestigious awards at the ongoing International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, 40th Assembly in Montreal, Canada. Ghana was awarded the International Civil Aviation Organization Council President’s certificates for maintaining one of the highest aviation safety and security standards globally. The safety award is in recognition of Ghana obtaining Africa’s highest score in Aviation Safety Oversight after scoring a provisional Effective Implementation (EI) rate of 89.89 percent. Government has directed the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) to purchase all fertilisers necessary for the growing of cocoa and other crops from local sources, beginning next year. The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who disclosed the directive on Wednesday 25th September, 2019, said such an order had become possible because Government, through the ‘One District One Factory’ initiative, had built up the necessary local capacity to meet and exceed Ghana’s fertilizer demand, which stands at about 600,000 metric tonnes per annum, according to officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
