The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has said it has developed a Teacher Resource Pack for all public school teachers from Kindergarten to Primary Six to be used as a teaching guide while awaiting the approved textbooks. So far, 165,000 of the packs have been distributed to all district education directorates for onward distribution to all teachers by the beginning of the academic year, which is next week. This follows complaints from the public that the GES is rolling out the new curriculum without the corresponding textbooks. Resource pack In an interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday, the…

Government is working towards providing every hospital in the country a medical herbalist in a move to supplement and improve healthcare delivery, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has revealed. Medical herbalists are trained to incorporate scientific methods into their work to upgrade their practice and polish their arts. He said the Ministry was striving to develop traditional medicines to the levels of countries like China, which was not attainable without the incorporation of science and research into traditional medicine. “Therefore there is the need to build the human resource capacity in readiness to support efforts by the Ministry.” Mr Agyeman-Manu said…
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned a wave of looting and violence mostly targeting nationals of other African countries. “There can be no justification for any South African to attack people from other countries,” he said on Tuesday. Dozens of people were arrested in Johannesburg on Monday. At least five people have been killed in the unrest. Other African governments have issued warnings to their citizens over the violence. Attacks on businesses run by “foreign nationals is something totally unacceptable, something that we cannot allow to happen in South Africa,” Mr Ramaphosa said in a video posted to Twitter.…
Information gathered by the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal indicates that about 460 Level 100 trainee teachers across the 46 Colleges of Education in the country will be withdrawn for abysmal performance in the first year of the four-year Bachelor of Education programme. The trainees were admitted in the 2018/2019 academic year, which was crippled with the over one month CETAG strike, challenges in the new curriculum development, uncoordinated subject base workshops for tutors, abridged academic calendar among others. Due to the aforementioned challenges, trainees delayed for more than a month before reporting to commence the first semester. After reporting…
This week, as part of my Patriotic Epistles series, I will suggest one among the many solutions to some of the precarious issues facing this country. On corruption, I have proposed this paradox of a title – replace all portraits of the president, Akufo-Addo with that of undercover journalist, Manasseh Azure, following the recent report on how state contracts are illegally awarded without due diligence ; and on the other hand, the swift action by the president, Nana Akufo Addo to suspend the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei. The recently premiered corruption…
Just when I had ordered my banku at an eatery somewhat opposite the Afrikiko Restaurant in Accra, I had a call from the office. It was my colleague, Sylvia Akorfa [Miss AK], calling with 3FM’s landline. “Hey, Solomon where are you?” she asked. Before I could tell her I was outside the premises of 3FM/TV3 for lunch, she pulled the breaks on me forcing me to swallow my words. “Someone by name Patrick just called in from Liberia Camp enclave near Kasoa. He says some suspected armed robbers have shot dead a police officer and injured another,” continued Miss AK.…
