Drugmaker Johnson & Johnson must pay $572m (£469m) for its part in fuelling America’s opioid painkiller addiction crisis, a judge in Oklahoma has ruled. The company said immediately after the judgement that it would appeal. The case was the first to go to trial out of thousands of lawsuits filed against opioid makers and distributors. Cocoa farmers, chiefs and residents along the Elubo-Enchi corridor of the Western North Region are upset about the deplorable nature of roads in the enclave. Some unidentified youth in the Karga District of the Northern Region have attacked a Fulani settlement at Bakurgu, killing several livestock’s belonging in the area. About 65 houses, motorbikes, bicycles and money have been torched by the attackers. Some military personnel have allegedly assaulted some taxi drivers and removed their car batteries at the Effiakuma Number 9 taxi rank in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has begun a process for the extradition of Chika Nnodim from Nigeria to Ghana to face charges as one of the suspects named in the case of the girls who have gone missing in Takoradi.
