The President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the University of Ghana, Legon, Dr. Harry Agbanu, has questioned the motive for a draft Public Universities Bill when there is no problem with the current law. Dr Agbanu said the new bill would be “resisted” at all cost. He acknowledged that the current development is related to recent happenings at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), which witnessed stand-offs between the students and the Vice Chancellors. Dr. Harry Agganu told 3FM’s morning show host Winston Amoah that the…
Head of Security at Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Major (rtd) Lawrence Appiah has warned the public against any acts that seek to undermine the progress of the country. He has particularly warned that he and his men will not hesitate to defy their security rules of engagement by killing anyone who attempts to burn pipelines belonging to Cirrus Oil Services Limited in Tema, an enclave within which GRIDCo and VRA also operates. It had emerged Monday, April 8 that some unidentified persons attempted to burn pipelines belonging to the Volta River Authority (VRA), but upon inspection Tuesday, the retired army…
It’s unfortunate some partisan bootlickers believed I was only ranting and had no reasons to reject the bogus draft bill. Below are the reasons for my rejection of the Draft Public Universities Bill. These have also been forwarded with the leadership of UTAG. The basic premise of a harmonised Public Universities Act, is not only wrong but absurd, as it seeks to make all public universities ‘look the same’. The progress of universities worldwide, is largely reflected in how different they can be, from other universities or other institutions of higher education. Differentiation is generally seen as a major characteristic…

But the former president has written to the Minister of Education to reject the offer. A statement issued Monday explained Mr…

Women who regularly give their male partner oral sex may be less likely to suffer recurrent miscarriages, scientists claim. Researchers believe swallowing semen strengthens a pregnant woman’s immune system in a way which makes foetuses more likely to grow healthily. This could be, they say, because it contains hormones and proteins from the man’s body, to which it could be useful for the mother to build up a tolerance. Vaginal exposure to semen – so unprotected sex – could also play an important role in a couple trying to conceive, but semen may be better absorbed in the gut. Researchers…
Although our musicians are doing some great music out lately, it is an undeniable fact that some songs that have become hits have not deserved it. Over the years, some musicians have survived with average songs but Highlife artiste, Kofi Kinaata, says it’s about time Ghanaians appreciate good music. “It takes divine intervention for a good song to blow up in Ghana. I know of so many good songs that are not hits. “It was difficult for a song like Chocho Mucho by Bless to become a hit just because he didn’t have the money to push it but other…
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has asked the government not celebrate its macroeconomic stability achievement, pointing out that such a feat does not automatically translate into jobs or improve the livelihood of the people. Addressing the nation on Ghana’s economy last Wednesday, vice president Mahamudu Bawumia gave figures to suggest the economy has in the last two years performed better than it was previously. Justifying his assertion that the fundamentals were weak under the Mahama government, to Dr. Bawumia “in 2014, exchange rate depreciated by 31.1%, the fiscal deficit was at 10.1% of GDP, and the public rate rose to…
Newly printed cedi notes with security-enhanced features are set to be released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) on May 6. The new 10, 20 and 50 cedi notes will come with what the central bank said is “improved durability and machine readability”. It is unclear what triggered the move, but the BoG said in a statement issued on Monday, April 8 that the decision to upgrade the three cedi denominations with enhanced security features is to keep up with “evolving technology”. The principal design elements – denomination colours, dimension of the notes and background images among others- the central…
