The commercial (trotro) driver and his conductor accused of assaulting a police officer are alleged to have been tortured in police custody, and are currently said to be in critical condition at Bureu of National Investigations (BNI) cells. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has submitted his long-awaited report on alleged collusion between Russia and President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.  A justice department official said Mr Mueller’s report did not recommend any further indictments. The special counsel has already charged six former Trump aides and dozens of Russians. The Attorney General William Barr will now summarise the report and decide how much to share with Congress. Mr Barr told congressional leaders in a letter that he anticipated being able to inform them of the report’s key findings over the weekend. A week after the flooded Mozambican port of Beira was hit by Cyclone Idai, cases of cholera have been recorded, a humanitarian aid group said on Friday. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) warned of the risk of other outbreaks, already noting an increase in malaria. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Appeatu, on Friday said commanders will soon be posted to the six newly created Regions. This he said was part of the Ghana Police Service’s initiative to bring policing to the door-step of the ordinary Ghanaian. Minister of Education Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has brought together feuding factions fueling the “threatening” development at  University of Education, Winneba (UEW) for peace talk. According to the minister, the prevailing situation at the university was a “source of worry” to his ministry and other stakeholders. At least 30 staff have either been dismissed or demoted at the University of Education, Winneba as accusations and counter accusations on the administration of the university culminated into students demonstration. The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is pleading with the governing council of the University of Education Winneba to reinstate some 23 staff, including Prof Mawutor Avoke, who were sacked as vice chancellor. According to UTAG, the reinstatement of these staff who were dismissed, suspended and demoted, will “contribute to bringing about normalcy” to the university which has since last week Friday been closed down following students protests that turned violent.
