Government says a total of 14,160 trained teachers from various Colleges of Education were posted by the Ghana Education Service in 2017, Education Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has told parliament. The figure, he said, was made up of 11,733 graduates from public colleges of education and 2,427 from the private colleges. The International Monetary Fund is urging the government of Ghana to carry on with the financial sector clean up to improve its credit rating. The advice comes as the country ends its Extended Credit Facility agreement with the Briton Wood institution this year. A statement on the eighth review of the facility by the IMF Executive Board on Wednesday lauded Ghana for the recent clean up in its banking sector which cost the state about 13 billion cedis. New Zealand will ban all types of semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles following the Christchurch attacks, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said. A human rights group is alleging the Police claim it does not know the whereabouts of the commercial bus (trotro) driver and his conductor arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Accra.
