Minister of Education Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has brought together feuding factions fueling the “threatening” development at  University of Education, Winneba (UEW) for peace talk. According to the minister, the prevailing situation at the university was a “source of worry” to his ministry and other stakeholders. A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Abraham Amaliba, has described as false, the explanation by the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, regarding the recent power outages in parts of the country. The Power Distribution Service (PDS) has been advised to shed load at various Bulk Supply Points to ensure system stability in Ghana’s power distribution. A request by Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) disclosed in a press release today said due to the construction of the road interchange at the ACP Junction, Pokuase, the capacity of the transmission network will be limited. Authorities in Nigeria have started demolishing buildings near the site of the four-storey structure that collapsed on Wednesday in Lagos. Local reports suggest that dozens of houses have been served with a demolition notice. Omotayo Fakolujo, from the Lagos State Building Control Agency told the BBC that more than 100 buildings will be demolished on Lagos Island. He added that a minimum of three will be demolished per day. He also denied allegations that owners of marked buildings had paid bribes to avoid demolition.
