Three top officers accused of misappropriating GH¢480,177.87 of the Endowment Fund of staff of Electoral Commission (EC) have been cleared by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Daily Guide newspaper reports. The US has approved controversial tariffs on imported washing machines and solar panels. The move is in line with President Donald Trump’s “America First” trade policy, which aims to protect local manufacturers from foreign competition. A spokesman said the administration would “always defend American workers, farmers, ranchers and businessmen”. Legendary South African trumpeter, composer and singer Hugh Masekela has died at age 78 in Johannesburg. According to a statement released by his family, the trumpeter passed after a battle with prostate cancer. In October 2017, the trumpeter’s team released a statement saying he was battling prostate cancer. The Accra Regional Police Command has denied news making rounds that inmates who escaped from the Kwabenya police station on Sunday dawn have been arrested. “The Accra Regional Police Command is debunking false information making the rounds on social media that ‘all suspects who absconded from lawful custody at the Kwabenya Police Station have surrendered themselves to Madina Police, apart from the Nigerian who was involved in a robbery,’” the police said in a statement. The Bank of Ghana is asking Ghanaians to be wary of Bitcoin, a digital currency largely seen as an alternative currency, because their interest cannot be protected by the bank.
