Volta Region representative at the 2017 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Edem, is leading her peers in the competition with the most popular votes after three weeks of performances. Five persons who were arrested Tuesday for misconducting themselves and assaulting some police personnel during a demonstration by some small scale miners in Kumasi have been granted police bail. They have been cautioned on assault and offensive conduct. Five others, who had weapons such as cutlasses, hammer and other implements on them are also being held by the Ashanti Regional Police Command. The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has justified the dismissal of some of its personnel, and denied claims that those affected were affiliated to the National Democratic Congress. Public Relations Officer of YEA,  Awal Mohammed, they were dismissed purely on the basis that they did not have appointment letters, and not because of political vendetta as is being claimed by some critics. Management of GCB Bank Limited is reported to have terminated the appointment of about 1000 workers of the now defunct UT Bank Limited. The license of UT Bank as well as the Capital Bank was revoked by the Bank of Ghana on August 14, and approved a purchase and assumption transaction with GCB Bank Limited, transferring all deposits and selected assets of UT Bank Ltd and Capital Bank Ltd to GCB Bank Ltd. The African Union Commission has commended the Government of Ghana for implementing the Free Senior High School policy, indicating that it is a sure way of ensuring the growth of the country and Africa as a whole. The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that Parliament wants to cut down the size of committees in the House.  The leadership of the House, he said, have observed that almost all the committees including the Standing or Select Committees have about 30 members, which according to him, is too much for a single committee. Some 370,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Rakhine state for Bangladesh since the outbreak of violence last month. Whole villages have been burned down.
