The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei, has vowed to weed out lawless ECOWAS immigrants in the Ashanti region whose activities have become a security threat to the region. He observed that some of these immigrants are abusing the protocol of the sub-regional bloc that allows free movement of persons and goods within member states for 90 days. The Office of the Special Public Prosecutor’s Bill and that of the Zongo Development Fund have suffered a jolt after being withdrawn from Parliament by government. This comes on the wake of concerns raised by the Minority regarding the laying of the two bills. A total of 400 police cum military personnel would be deployed to mining areas next week to counter the activities of illegal miners known as galamsey. This is part of government’s unrelenting fight against the galamsey canker that have had dire consequences on the country over the years: water bodies have been destroyed, arable land depleted and environment degraded among other fatal effects. Joachim Iroko, a market trader also known as Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, was arrested in 2016 accused of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. Two more bodies have been found following flash floods in the Northern Region on Tuesday. A little girl and a boy, 13, went missing after heavy rains on Tuesday. A woman, whose name has been given as Hajia Fati, was pulled away in her car by the floods. She was later confirmed dead. The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) has sued MTN, Airtel, Vodafone and Tigo for using intellectual property of musicians without paying royalties to them.
