US President Donald Trump has dismissed FBI director James Comey, White House says. “Today, President Donald J Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office,” said a White House statement. The surprise move comes after it emerged Mr Comey gave inaccurate information about Hillary Clinton’s emails to Congress last week. Government says it has finalised plans to split the Northern Savannah Ecological Zone into two but an architect of the development of the zone has expressed fears the move would retard the development plan of the area. President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the District Chief Executive for Garu-Tempane in the Upper East Region, Emmanuel Asore Avoka, has been given an overwhelming confirmation by the Assembly. Mr Avoka, a teacher, polled 36 out of the 43 votes, representing 86 per cent, the Electoral Commission announced at Tuesday’s confirmation election. The ‘powerful’ Chinese woman, Aisha Huen, who has allegedly been engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana, has been remanded in prison custody with her four other compatriots whiles investigations continue. The courts held it could not trust Aisha Huen, a.k.a Aisha Enhuen, to avail herself for investigations. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied engaging in illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’. Almost two months since Unicef director Charlotte Nikoi’s disappearance, President Jacob Zuma appealed to anyone who may have information to come forward and assist the police with their investigation. Ghanaians, especially those in the rural areas, risk developing cancer due to high levels of pollution of water bodies. According to the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), small scale illegal mining activities have left a number of streams polluted with arsenic, a chemical which causes cancer over a period of time.
