Members of the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Mining [GNASSM] have condemned what they termed irresponsible mining activities leading to destruction of forest reserves and water bodies. At a media interaction in Kumasi, members of GNASSM said the association is not a law enforcement agency and thus is not able to prevent or stop the illegality in the sector. However, GNASSM is ready with its taskforce at the various mining districts to team up with the national security apparatus to identify where illegal activities are taking place so that such people can be brought to book. The Ghana National Association…
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority says it is targeting a 50 per cent reduction in the payment of demurrage by the close of 2017. Demurrage is a charge payable to the owner of a chartered ship on failure to load or discharge the ship within the time agreed. In Ghana, the payment of demurrage is a major challenge for most importers due to the high taxes and duties payable on imported goods. Delays by importers in raising funds to clear goods lead to the goods being left at the port, causing accumulation of demurrage charges. Speaking with 3FM Business, Chief Executive…
The former MP for Ablekuma North, Justice Joe Appiah has strongly condemned the menacing behavior of Delta Force, a pro-government vigilante group, calling them a “foolish force”. Justice Appiah who was in parliament on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party, asserted that each member of the NPP played an important role no matter how small it was, in ensuring that the party assumed the reign of this country. It would be a total absurdity for an individual or a group to claim that they worked the most in bringing the party to power, he said. “Who are they,…
It wasn’t until 2nd September 2013, that an American business mogul and maverick politician, Donald John Trump tweeted: “If the U.S. attacks Syria and hits the wrong targets, killing civilians, there will be worldwide hell to pay. Stay away and fix broken U.S.” Sounding so conservative and ‘anti-US world police’, perhaps no one could possibly imagine back then that Trump would be president today. His remark was significant to relent on the position of the “American Exceptionalism” – a prelude to the United States global empire. What is the American Exceptionalism? American Exceptionalism in the context of nationalism is the…

The nations agreed there was no solution to the Syria crisis with President Assad in power. But UK proposals to target sanctions at senior military leaders were sidelined. The diplomacy in the Italian town of Lucca follows the latest apparent use of chemical weapons in Syria. Syria has denied it carried out…
