Fourteen thousand, four hundred (14,400) UTZ certified cocoa farmers in two regions – Ashanti and Western, are to benefit from a bonus of GH¢1,147,696.00. The money is coming from Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Company Limited, a subsidiary of Barry Callebaut – the world’s leading supplier of high quality chocolate and cocoa products. From January 2017 to date, a total of 137 chainsaw machines and 29 truck-load of illegal lumber have been seized by the Goaso forest district in the Brong Ahafo Region. This followed a special operation carried out jointly by the military and officials at the Goaso District of the Forest Service Division. A US military strike with a weapon known as the “mother of all bombs” (MOAB) killed 36 IS militants and destroyed their base, the Afghan defence ministry says. The 21,600lb (9,800kg) bomb was dropped on a tunnel complex used by so-called Islamic State in Nangarhar province. No civilians were affected by the explosion, the ministry said. The youth of Jomoro in the Western Region have vowed to ensure police officers who allegedly brutalized some residents of Ekpu and Half Assini communities are brought to book. The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), has started disbursing 2,224,000 being the outstanding royalties to musicians who are members for the month of December 2016.
