One out of every 10 girls in Africa misses days in school during menstrual period, according to UNICEF. In reversing this trend in Ghana, JInitiative, a child and family focused organization, started the Happy School Girl Project. “The HSGP is promoting suitable ways in which girls can cope with their monthly flow with respect to how they obtain, use, and dispose of sanitary materials, without having them feel undignified,” a statement by JInitiative explained. A Cameroonian student in Ghana who allegedly inserted his finger into the vagina of a four-year-old girl at Kwashieman in Accra has been put before an Accra Circuit Court. Yves Martial Ekobe has pleaded not guilty to indecent assault, and the court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded him into Police custody to appear again on March 8 for continuation of hearing. The Abeka District Court Wednesday remanded a Lebanese branch manager of Mawarko Restaurant located at Abelenkpe, Jihad Thaabn, for allegedly assaulting a female staff. He is alleged to have dipped the face of one Evelyn Boakye, a caterer at the restaurant, into a blended pepper and locked her up for hours. He had pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault, offensive conduct and causing harm.
