The Ghana Private Road Transport Union and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council say they have not officially increased transportation fares, despite reports of some increment by some drivers. Checks by 3FM at some lorry stations in Accra Friday showed between 10 and 15 per cent increment in fares which has angered some passengers many of whom engaged in serious arguments with the drivers. The sacked executives of the National Democratic Congress at Lawra  in the Upper West Region have described as baseless and lies, the claim that they contributed to the poor performance of the party in the constituency in 2016 general elections. Four of the executives, Secretary, Deputy Youth Organiser, Women’s Organiser and Director of Communication,  were dismissed for allegedly contributing to the defeat of the party’s parliamentary candidate in the election, Bede Ziedeng. Illegal mining activities along the Black Volta River is threatening potable water supply in Wa in the Upper West Region, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency has said. The continuous activities of the illegal miners, according to the Upper West Regional Director of the Agency, Wolanyo Kudzo Siebi, is affecting the quality of water and likely to increase the cost of water treatment for domestic use. A driver, said to be working with Engineers and Planners and identified as William Boamah, has reportedly been shot dead by armed robbers on the Tamale-Salaga road in the Northern Region. The shooting was said to have happened at about 7:00pm Thursday while the deceased and others were returning from Tamale.
