The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) is looking ahead to a bigger, better and greater future as it celebrates 33 years in God’s ministry. A South African journalist with Pretoria FM, observing the ferocity of the xenophobic attacks, says the safety of Ghanaians in South Africa cannot be guaranteed totally contrary to what has been painted by Ghanaian officials. The outgoing dean of the Parliamentary Press Corps, Andrew Edwin Arthur has called for the total independence of the press corps to ensure that it doesn’t operate directly under the Public Affairs Department of Parliament. According to Nyanteng, Ghana experienced a rapid dietary shift to rice, particularly in the urban centres, during the early post-independence period (starting 1957). The trend was attributed to increased income, favourable government pricing policies, good storability of rice and ease of cooking. Rice consumption in Ghana increased from 7.4 kg per caput/annum between 1982 and 1985 (WARDA, 1986) to 13.3 kg per caput/annum (Government of Ghana, 1996) resulting in a total annual consumption of 239 400 tonnes of milled rice (i.e. estimated on 18 million population). The annual consumption (1991-1996) thus showed an increase of 119 000 tonnes over that of 1990.…

Several fuel tankers and other properties were consumed by a ravaging fire at a tanker yard near the Ashaiman Timber Market Sunday afternoon. It is not clear what actually caused the fire, but preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service suggest that it might have been caused by a transfer of fuel from one tanker to another. A total of 12 tankers out of the about 26 in the yard were completely burnt  with fire fighters going through a tough time to bring the inferno under control.
